Halloween is still a couple of weeks away, but there were some almost-supernatural happenings:
Redskins cornerback Darrell Green decided the new pair of gloves he was wearing caused him to drop several passes in warmups for the second half. He removed one of them as he ran onto the field for the first play of the third quarter - and immediately picked off a throw by Drew Bledsoe.
During pregame warmups, Patriots coach Bill Parcells advised running back Curtis Martin to ``break a big one today - and don't let Darrell Green catch you.'' Martin was on his way to an 81-yard scoring run late in the third quarter when Green caught him from 20 yards behind.
Newly signed Redskins receiver Flipper Anderson told Heney Ellard that the first thing he thought of as he walked into Foxboro Stadium Sunday was a game Ellard enjoyed against the Patriots 10 years ago. Ellard caught eight passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Sunday, Ellard caught eight passes for 152 yards and one TD.
Blocking (quarter)back
Redskins QB Gus Frerotte played a key role in his team's first touchdown, a 32-yard reverse by receiver Leslie Shepherd.
Frerotte handed off the Terry Allen, who handed to Shepherd coming from right to left. Frerotte, seeing Patriots defensive end Ferric Collons in position to stuff the play, stood in front of Collons and hand-fought him to the side, making a lane in which Shepherd could cut back.
``Gus' block set up the whole play for me,'' Shepherd said. ``It doesn't go for a touchdown without him.''
``I did some work on it during the bye week,'' Frerotte joked. ``Really, I was just trying to stay in his face, situate myself between him and Shep so that Shep had a place to operate in.''
Injury report
DT Marc Boutte injured the meniscus in his right knee. He'll be reevaluated today. Others hurt: FB Marc Logan (sprained left knee), DT Romeo Bandison (sprained right knee and ankle); WR Henry Ellard (sprained lower back) and DE Dexter Nottage (sprained left elbow).
