EVANS D. HOWELL

Evans Dixon Howell, 77, of the 300 block of Sherwood Drive, died Oct. 13, 1996, in his home.

A native of Suffolk, he retired as a commercial brickmason supervisor. Mr. Howell was a member of First Baptist Church, N. Main St., participating in Adult 7 Bible Class, as a deacon and serving on many committees. He was a member of Suffolk Masonic Lodge (NU)30 and served as a U.S. Army staff sergeant during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Wilkins Howell; a daughter, Linda H. Sperling of Asheville, N.C.; and a grandson, Aaron D. Sperling of Asheville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida Evans Howell and Willie H. Howell.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Thurman R. Hayes Jr. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home and at other times in the residence.
