Joseph Alston Dent, of the 3400 block of Stancil St., died Oct. 12, 1996, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Born in Chesapeake, he was a longshoreman for I.L.A. Local 1970. Mr. Dent was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dent; three daughters, Avis Powell, Kia Belt, Uzarbuyan Dent; five sons, Joseph Dent, Keith Dent, Robert Dent, Troy Dent, Delano Booth; two sisters, Malette Dent of Norfolk, Lessie Avent of California; six stepsisters; a brother, Eugene Dent of Gates County; a stepbrother; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rock Church, Virginia Beach, by Pastor Clarence McPherson. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The remains will be ready for viewing today at 3 p.m. The family will assemble at noon at the residence for the procession. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
