A small fire erupted Tuesday morning in Ocean View after workers installing a sewer line caused a minor gas leak.
The fire occurred at 10:04 a.m. outside a house in the 9600 block of Selby Place near Ocean View Avenue, said Jack Goldhorn, a spokesman for Norfolk Fire and Paramedical Services.
Contractors installing the gas line were digging with picks when they struck a line, which caused a spark, then a fire. There was minimal damage to the exterior of the home, Goldhorn said.
Firefighters arrived four minutes after receiving a call and quickly extinguished the blaze. Virginia Natural Gas workers arrived within minutes and shut off the gas, Goldhorn said.
