LOOSEN UP ON STAMPS

Fred Bertsch writes to complain about food-stamp abuse after witnessing some woman buying a couple of Slurpees, a bottled water and one can of soda with them at a 7-Eleven (letters, Oct. 8).

I am a military wife with two kids. We do not use food stamps, but neither is there often any money left over for special treats for the kids. Many times I've been out running errands with my 4-year-old telling me he's thirsty or can he have a treat today and I haven't had a dime on me.

7-Elevens are convenient when out running errands or on long drives. Fast-food drive-thrus probably don't accept food stamps. It's not like she was buying beer or cigarettes.
