Leroy Allen ``Pinkey'' ``Wessie'' Wescott, 48, of the 1400 block of Lois Lane, died Oct. 9, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
A native of Norfolk, he was a son of Octavia Randolph Wescott and the late Jeff M. Wescott Sr. He was a member of Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception and a graduate of Norview High School. He attended Norfolk State University and was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was retired from the Marine Corps Reserves with 19 1/2 years of service as a gunnery sergeant. He was a member of Malachi Lodge (NU)136 and Prince Hall F&AM Masons. He was a gear room attendant for Cooper T. Smith and was employed by the International Longshoreman's Association Local 1248 for 27 years.
He was formerly married to Celestine R. Wescott. From this union, there are two children, Shylisle D. Wescott and Leroy A. Wescott Jr., both of Virginia Beach. Survivors include his mother, Octavia R. Wescott; sisters, Helen Wescott Smith and Mildred Wescott Cooper; an adopted sister, Audrey L. Pierce; and a brother, Jeff M. Wescott Jr.; a devoted companion, Linda M. Augustas; a godmother, Mrs. Gloria Jenkins; two goddaughters, Mrs. Karen Newman and Donnita Gary; and a host of other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at noon Saturday in Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception by Fr. Walter C. Barrett. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Riddick Funeral Service is in charge. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday. There will be a Christian wake at the funeral home beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
