Jewell Marie English, 43, of the 400 block of Granada Drive, died Monday, Oct. 14, in a local hospital.
Mrs. English was born in Memphis, Tenn., and was the daughter of the late Bilbo and Velma Austin Harper. She was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy with 22 years of service. She also co-owned Sparkle Wash of Virginia Beach. Mrs. English was a member of Parkway Temple, Tidewater Builders Association, Builders and Contractors Exchange and the Lupus Foundation.
Survivors include her husband, James Woodrow English Jr.; her two daughters, Angelica M. Orta and Christina M. Orta, both of Chesapeake; her son, Alveto S. Cowley II of Honolulu, Hawaii; her two brothers, Marion Austin of Spokane, Wash., and Theopolis Austin of Sacramento, Calif.; a cousin, Frankie Burns of Memphis; and her mother-in-law, Emily P. English Rawls of Chesapeake.
Parkway Temple will hold a memorial service Saturday at 1 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Ernest Trueblood officiating. Burial will be private. Viewing will begin Friday morning at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, with family receiving friends that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, 281 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23462.
