Douglas Hardison Thomassen, 72, of Route 1, Box 216-H, died Oct. 15, 1996, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mr. Thomassen was born on Staten Island, N.Y. The son of the late Thom and Mrs. Eva Hardison Thomassen, he was a retired distribution manager for American Oil Co., Philadelphia. He was formerly a member of Ruritan National and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Eureka Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Conard Thomassen; a son, Douglas V. Thomassen, and his wife, Marie, of Chesapeake; two grandsons, Michael and Christopher Thomassen; and two step-granddaughters, Ashley and Krystal Warren.
Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville. Following the visitation, funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Cameron Currin. After services, the body will be cremated and a private interment will be held at a later date. Prior to the visitation, friends may join the family at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to Eureka Baptist Church.
