The guided-missile cruiser Leyte Gulf returned home to Mayport,

Fla., on Tuesday under its own power. The ship was damaged on its

bow during a collision early Monday with the Norfolk-based

carrier Theodore Roosevelt. The carrier sustained relatively minor

damage. Repairs to the cruiser are considered to be cosmetic and

are to be made at pierside, a Navy spokesman said. No

administrative action has been taken against the crew of either

ship. The accident happened about 3 a.m., about 100 miles east of

Cape Hatteras, where the ships were in a training exercise. The

Roosevelt remains at sea.
