Mary Benton Smith, 91, of the 600 block of Kingsborough Square, died Oct. 17, 1996, in her residence.
Born in Sunbury, N.C., she was the widow of Leslie S. Smith Sr. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Portsmouth.
Survivors include a son, L. Stafford Smith Jr. of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Leslie S. Smith III of Carrsville, Va., Matthew R. Smith of Portsmouth, Sarah E. Smith of Richmond; and four great-granddaughters.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Philip J. Parker. The family will receive friends at the home of her son, L. Stafford Smith Jr., at 611 Maury Ave., Norfolk. Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Portsmouth.
