BLUE WATER ANGLERS FARE WELL, THOSE ON PIERS HAVE A SLOW DAY

Blue water fishing off the Dare coast was good Friday.

Charters off Oregon Inlet landed plenty of yellowfin tuna and lots of king mackerel along with a few dolphin and wahoo.

King mackerel fishing was excellent off Hatteras with fish weighing up to 44 pounds taken. Charter craft also landed good numbers of dolphin, a few wahoo and scattered tuna. A blue marlin was released by the Gambler.

Pier fishing along the Northern Beaches was fairly slow overall.

On Kitty Hawk Pier, plenty of sea mullet were taken late Thursday but only a few were landed Friday.

Fishermen on Avalon Pier caught a few bluefish, sea mullet, speckled trout and gray trout.

Scattered small bottom fish, little bluefish and a four-pound black drum were landed from Nags Head Pier.

On Jennette's Pier, anglers caught a few bottom fish and small bluefish.

Outer Banks Pier reported good sea mullet catches Thursday night. Small speckled trout, sea mullet, black drum and sand perch were landed Friday.

South of Oregon Inlet, fishermen caught a few bluefish, croakers, speckled trout and blowtoads throughout the day.

On Avon Pier, a 200-pound tiger shark was landed Thursday night. A handful of spot, sea mullet and black drum were landed Friday.

Frisco Pier reported plenty of sea mullet taken Friday afternoon. A few spot and trout also were landed.

Sea mullet, croaker, a few spot and small bluefish were caught by surf casters along the Northern Beaches.

A few trout, flounder and small bottom fish were landed around Oregon Inlet.

Surf fishermen caught small bottom fish, bluefish and a few pompano along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Drum were landed at Cape Point Thursday night. Plenty of sea mullet were taken Friday. Some speckled trout were caught in the surf near the lighthouse.

Good catches of sea mullet, scattered small bluefish, flounder and speckled trout were beached by surf fishermen from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

The water temperature was 66 Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 73 at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
