James Harris ``Chester'' Stukes, 56, of the 3200 block of Bruno Drive died Oct. 16, 1996, in Chesapeake General Hospital.
A native of Norfolk County, Mr. Stukes was a member of Lee's Chapel A.M.E. Church, Bells Mill, Chesapeake. He was a janitor for the Teamsters Union with 28 years service before his retirement three years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Stukes of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Michelle Stukes of Washington, D.C.; sons, James H. Stukes Jr., Chris Sanford and Douglas Sanford of Chesapeake; sisters, Alice Bell, Elaine Baynard, Cynthia Branch and Debbie Stukes, all of Chesapeake, Iva Cuffee of Portsmouth and Catherine Alton of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Alfred Stukes, Reginald Stukes, Alex Stukes, David Stukes and Charles Stukes, all of Chesapeake, Adolph Stukes of Gaithersburg, Md., and William Stukes and Larry Stukes, both of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren; and a host of great-nieces and newphews, who were touched by his love.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lee's Chapel A.M.E. Church, Bells Mill, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Horace B. Cross. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fitchett Funeral Home is in charge. The family will be at 1153-A Bells Mill Road, Chesapeake.
