Carrie Blythe Saunders, 85, of the 100 block of Kings Highway died Oct. 17, 1996.
A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Lafayette and Nancy Carr Blythe. For more than 60 years, Mrs. Saunders was a member of Oakland Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, was in charge of the altar flowers for many years, was a member of the Newman Bible Class and Circle 1. She started the first Brownie scout troop of Chuckatuck.
Survivors include her husband, Harvey Francis Saunders Sr.; a daughter, Peggy Saunders Garvey of Waynesboro, Va.; two sons, Harvey F. Saunders Jr. of Smithfield, William G. (Jerry) Saunders of Chuckatuck; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Essie Holland of Raleigh, N.C., Otelia Felton and Mary Burres, both of Suffolk.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Oakland Christian Church by the Rev. Mark L. Burns. Burial will be in Newman Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends in R.W. Baker Funeral Home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Chuckatuck Fire Department Building Fund, P.O.
