The main theme of the debates seems to be that Clinton and Gore have put 10.5 million people to work. Are they talking about the people in Mexico and Canada who have gained jobs lost here in the U.S.?

Let's look at some of the newspaper articles. Oct. 8, CBN lays off 26 employees in Virginia Beach. Norfolk Southern to close repair shop in Tennessee which has 60 employees. Oct. 9 shows the Newport News Shipyard has lost 6,897 jobs since 1992. New Motorola cost cuts will include job losses. Oct. 10, Region's economy declines. Teddy Turner will lose his job along with 1,000 other employees at Turner Broadcasting. Oct. 11, Aetna to cut 4,400 jobs. Best Products to close half its stores and fire 4,500 employees.

And I haven't even mentioned the 4,000 jobs at NADEP. About half of those employed had to take jobs in other cities, leaving the other half unemployed.

If there was any bright news, it was that some company may open a new shop and hire some people.
