Chesapeake General Hospital will show off its new Lifestyle Health and Fitness Center at an open house Oct. 26 and 27.
The event will include demonstrations of fitness equipment, tips on healthy cooking and appearances by local radio personalities. There will also be drawings for prizes, including a membership to the center, a massage or a gym bag.
The center's staff will conduct tours and answer questions about programs and memberships from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday. Babs Carlson, a registered dietitian, will demonstrate how to prepare healthy snacks and how to do low-fat wok cooking from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
``We offer a well-rounded program with something for everyone, whether it's for good health maintenance or for assistance with health concerns,'' said Elaine P. Hawkins, membership coordinator.
Fitness Center activities include exercise classes, personal training, weight lifting, strength building, massage therapy and fitness education. The center is equipped with Trotter Galileo circuit weights and equipment designed for cardiovascular workouts.
There are 60 aerobic classes scheduled at the center during the week, and there are 30-minute aerobic sessions at noon and 12:30 p.m. for those who want a quick workout during their lunch break.
The Health and Wellness Program provides diabetic screening sessions, blood pressure checks and specialty classes like nutritious cooking, CPR or stress management.
The cost of a basic membership at the center starts at $35 a month. MEMO: Additional information about the Lifestyle Health and Fitness
