Eight businesses at the Farmer's Market were destroyed by fire Aug.

22. Here's the status of their operations:

Bergey's Dairy Store (Leonard Bergey) - A complete dairy store

offering all types of fresh, locally produced milk in glass bottles.

Also sells fresh butter, cream and ice cream. The store has reopened

in a small building in the market's back lot.

C & J Produce (Jann Loucks and Cheyrl Adams) - Their stock of

produce and homemade crafts was destroyed by the fire. They are

filing insurance claims and waiting to see what will be done with

the market.

Hare Farms (David Hare) - Offering a variety of produce, Hare has

expanded his display space at the market under the newly erected

yellow and white tents. He was the only merchant not insured for

his loss.

Joe's Old Fashioned Meat Market (Joe Suraci) - The owner of this

specialty butcher shop could not be reached for comment in time for

this story. According to reports, his shop was insured.

Rob's Garden Shop (Rob Mays) - He sells plants and produce, special

nursery stock, concentrating on Christmas wreaths and other seasonal

items. He is filing claims to cover his losses. He also operates a

wholesale nursery and will be selling Christmas wreaths beginning

after Thanksgiving at Taste Unlimited on Shore Drive.

The Lady Peddlar (Rosemary McCombs) - Her stock of plants and crafts

was destroyed by the fire but was insured. She is hoping to come

back to the market and move into one of the shops being vacated at

the end of the month.

Who's On First (Jo-Ann Mezzapesa) - The owner of this sports card

and antique store had given notice to end her lease before the fire.

All her stock and customer lists were destroyed. She was insured.

She is now in business under the name Collector's Corner in

Elizabeth City.

Wood Creations (Karen Mosca) - Selling custom-built hardwood

furniture and crafts, Mosca had signed a lease at Pembroke Mall

before the fire. She was insured. She lost all her stock on hand but

has opened her shop at the mall.
