Dorothy Estelle Melms, 87, of the first block of Chatham Road died Oct. 19, 1996, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
A native of Norfolk County, Mrs. Melms was the widow of Clarence Lee Melms and retired from the Leggett department store, Portsmouth, as a buyer/department manager. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a lifetime member of Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 37.
Survivors include her daughter, Helen M. Butler of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a son, Lonnie F. Melms of Windsor, Va.; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey M. Hahneman. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be in the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
