HIGHWAY WIDENING

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will begin construction Monday on the final section of N.C. 168 from Barco to the Virginia state line.

Construction is scheduled for completion in the summer of 1999.

The $11.9 million contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro to widen 5.8 miles of N.C. 168 to five lanes from north of N.C. 34 at Sligo to southeast of Moyock in Currituck County.

This section of construction is the final project to improve 18.5 miles of N.C. 168.

Construction is under way from Barco to Sligo and from Morse to the Virginia state line.

All lanes of traffic from the Virginia line to Morse will be open on N.C. 168 from noon Friday through 6 a.m. the following Monday.
