The Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to delay rezoning land for a borrow pit.
The commission will hear the matter again in its November meeting.
The land, on Godwin Boulevard, is owned by Richard and Edna Brooks Turner. The Turners have tried for about six years to rezone a portion of their 120-acre property to build a borrow pit. But area residents have opposed it, saying it would increase traffic and bring noise and dust to the area.
W.P. Taylor & Co. wants to move its contracting business to the property. Residents in the area protested, saying the site is an eyesore to the community.
Clayton Brock currently owns the property, which is an automobile and truck site.
The Planning Commission is an advisory body to the City Council, which makes final decisions on rezoning matters. by CNB
