Louis O. Miller Sr., 94, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 1996, in Williamsburg.
He was born on Christmas Day, 1901, in Bertie County, N.C. He was a resident of Portsmouth for 60 years before moving to Williamsburg in 1990. Mr. Miller retired from E.T. Scott Co. Inc. in 1978, after working for more then 50 years as a sales representative and district credit manager. He was active with the Portsmouth Boy Scouts, serving as a scoutmaster, district commissioner and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a member and elder emeritus of First Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth, serving in many official duties, including Sunday School superintendent. He had been a member in the Western Branch Masonic Lodge and Modern Woodsmen of America.
Mr. Miller is survived by his brother, Lathan L. Miller of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Louis O. Miller Jr. of Lumberton, N.C., and D. Keith Miller of Williamsburg; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Portsmouth, with the Rev. Henry D. Scoggins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m Wednesday. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 515 Court St., Portsmouth, Va. 23704. Umphlett Funeral Home, Newport News, is in charge.
