Quarter Master Chief Richard E. Harter, 54, of Blackstone, formerly of Charlotte County and Norfolk, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 1996. He was a retired quarter master chief for the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Knight Harter; a daughter, Deborah Kaye Harter of Blackstone; a son, Richard L. Harter of Crewe; three grandchildren; his mother, Eunice Culledge and stepfather, Howard Culledge of Beaufort, S.C.; four brothers, J.D. Harter Jr. of Mississippi, Gerald Harter of California, Harold A. Harter and Gary E. Harter, both of Beaufort, S.C.; two sisters, Audrey Fowler and Judy Murschell, both of Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today at the Grace Baptist Temple, Blackstone. Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Burial will take place in Beaufort National Cemetery, S.C.
