Maggie May Chappell, of the 3500 block of Argonne Ave., went to be with her Lord after 80 years of life on Oct. 20, 1996.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin L. Chappell Sr. and a son, Harold L. Chappell Sr. She was a longtime member of the Rock Church and Agape Church, but was attending Chesapeake Church of God at the time of her death.
She is survived by two daughters, Velma Smith and her husband, Johnny, of Norfolk, Janice Jones and her husband, Bobby, of Wake Forest, N.C.; two sons, Ray Chappell and his companion, Jim Bateman, of Norfolk, Benjamin L. Chappell Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Suffolk; seven granddaughters, Evon Dyson of High Point, N.C., Teresa White of Chesapeake, Loraine Thibault of Italy, Anita Chappell of Gary, Ind., Matie Price of Wake Forest, Heather and Sarah Chappell of Virginia Beach; five grandsons, Harold Chappell Jr. of Gary, Bobby Jones Jr., Ronald Jones, John Paul Jones, all of Wake Forest, N.C., and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel. A chapel service will be held at noon Wednesday by the Revs. Jack Sawyer, Pete Taylor, and a great-grandson, Jason. Burial will be at Rosewood Memorial Park.
