Thelma Gladys Bradshaw Blanchard, 80, of the 800 block of Hillsboro St., died Oct. 20, 1996, in Brantwood Nursing Center.
Born in Isle of Wight County, Va., she was the widow of James Allen Blanchard Sr. and daughter of the late Charlie Luke and Johnanna Lankford Bradshaw. She was retired as the first public school crossing guard in Suffolk and also was a private sitter. She was a member of First Baptist Church, N. Main St., and the Kaye Morrison Circle.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. James A. Blanchard and his wife, Joy G. Blanchard of Oxford; two brothers, Charles Bradshaw and his wife, Peggy, James Bradshaw and his wife, Becky, all of Suffolk; three sisters-in-law, Brigadier Janie Dare Blanchard of Suffolk, Sallie V. King of Smithfield, Va., Mrs. W. B. Blanchard of Roanoke, Va.; two aunts, Mrs. Geneva Chandler and Miss M.J. Lankford, both of Suffolk; and a close friend, Mrs. Frankie Hobden of Doncaster, England.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and other times in the home of James Bradshaw, 627 Dogwood Lane, Suffolk.
