SMITHFIELD FOODS has a lot to offer this week, including whole smoked picnic hams from 68 to 99 cents a pound, bacon at $1.69 for a 12-ounce package and pork sausage roll for 99 cents a pound. You'll also find maple, apple-cinnamon or regular-flavored pork sausage links at $1.59 a 12-ounce package.
Bring out the crock pot. Boneless beef shoulder roasts have reached their autumn peak. Prices range from $1.38 to $1.68 a pound.
California is providing us a new large grape, Rose Ito. The delicate purple grapes are sweet but not seedless. They're available through December for about $1.99 a pound.
Red and gold apples are a good buy this week at 59 cents a pound. You may want to try one of the new kids on the block, Jonagold from Washington state.
While strolling through produce, stock up on Florida citrus fruits. Navel oranges or pink grapefruit at four for 97 cents or tangerines at 10 cents each.
You won't have to stroll far to find offerings from near and far. These include fall squash from the Eastern Shore to asparagus from Peru, artichokes from California, and rutabagas from Canada.
