RETURNING

The amphibious transport dock ship Trenton has returned to Norfolk Naval Station after completing 40 days off the coast of Long Island, N.Y., supporting diving operations for TWA Flight 800. Trenton served as the command and control platform for the Navy task force commander. The ship and its crew of 420 also provided logistic support to Navy divers.

CHANGE OF COMMAND

Cmdr. George Petro has relieved Cmdr. Bradford McDonald as commanding officer of the fast attack submarine Mendel Rivers. Petro's most recent assignment was as executive officer of the fast-attack submarine Columbia. McDonald reports to the staff of Cruiser Destroyer Group Eight.

Capt. Lloyd Swift has relieved Capt. John Morgan Jr. as commanding officer of Destroyer Squadron 26 at the Norfolk Naval Station. Swift served most recently as a branch head in the strategic plans and policy directorate of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, D.C. Morgan's next assignment will be in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations as the interim director of anti-submarine warfare requirements. by CNB
