Joseph Elvie Brown, 82, formerly of the 3600 block of Lafayette Blvd. and the 2800 block of Early St., died Oct. 22, 1996, in Chesapeake.
Mr. Brown was a native of South Norfolk and was the son of the late Joseph and Clara Brown. He was a machinist for J.G. Wilson and Co., retiring in 1976 after 31 years of service. An Army veteran of World War II, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was also awarded a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. Mr. Brown was a longtime member of Disabled American Veterans' Association.
Survivors include two brothers, Billie Brown of Norfolk, Marshall Brown of Chesapeake; seven sisters, Joan Moore, Pansy Beale, Marion Abrams of Chesapeake, Annie Wilkins of Virginia Beach, Evelyn Massie of Hampton, Shirley Tynan of Pennsylvania, Betty Clark of Georgia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, by the Rev. Jimmy Jenkins. Family will meet at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, Chesapeake, where a visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
