MARIE R. MAYFIELD

Mrs. Marie Ricks Mayfield, of the 1200 block of E. Washington St., departed this life to be with God on Oct. 20, 1996, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was of the Baptist faith and a lifetime member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church, Suffolk. She was a member of the senior usher board. Mrs. Mayfield had retired from Planters Peanuts, a division of Standard Brands after over 30 years of service. She was also a member of the Local 26 Union.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Rosa Everett. Mrs. Mayfield leaves to mourn a devoted husband, Willie C. Mayfield; two daughters, Rosella R. Sanders and Hattie (Beauty) Lyons, both of Suffolk; two sons, James C. Ricks of Chesapeake, Willie McCoy Ricks of Suffolk; a brother, Leslie J. Everett of Suffolk; two daughters-in-law, Beverly Ricks of Suffolk, Barbara J. Ricks of Chesapeake; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Everett and Dorothy Parker, both of Suffolk; a granddaughter-in-law, Christina A. West-Gill; nine grandchildren, Stanley T. Gill, Sabrina Ricks, Toni Ricks, Terrell Ricks, Tiffany Ricks, Corey Ricks, Caressa Ricks, Carassa Ricks, Corney Ricks; five great-grandchildren, Crystal Foster, Amber Foster, Locandrae Foster, Jozlyn Love, Frazier Wescott Jr.; a cousin, Moe Ashe of Suffolk. She also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and longtime friends.

A celebration of triumph will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Metropolitan Baptist Church, 125 County St., Suffolk, with Dr. Melvin Boon officiating. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Park. The earthly remains will lie in state at the church at noon the day of the service. Public viewing will begin at noon today in Applewhite Funeral Home, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Mayfield, 1201 E. Washington St., Suffolk. Graves funeral Home, Norfolk, is handling arrangements.
