FISHING TAKES DAY OFF ALONG THE DARE COAST

Pier fishing along the Dare coast was slow Tuesday.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported only a few sea mullet taken all day.

On Avalon Pier, where the water was dirty, the best anglers could do was catch a few small bluefish and sand perch.

Fishermen on Nags Head Pier landed a few black drum, one keeper speckle trout and a sea mullet.

Fishing was slow on Jennette's Pier with no appreciable action reported.

A few bluefish, small puppy drum and a couple of flounder were taken from Outer Banks Pier during the morning. Small striped bass were released during the afternoon.

South of Oregon Inlet on Rodanthe Pier only a few puppy drum, black drum and spot were landed.

Fishing was slow on Avon Pier with a few trout, black drum and small bottom fish taken.

Action was nil during the morning on Frisco Pier. Later in the day anglers caught a few small spot, sea mullet, and flounder.

Surf action along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet was unusually slow with a handful of small bottom fish taken.

A few small blues, several small trout and scattered bottom fish were landed by surf fishermen around Oregon Inlet.

Big swells kept action in the surf at a minimum from Rodanthe to Buxton Tuesday. A few big drum were beached Monday night by surf casters north of Avon Pier. Several puppy drum were taken at Cape Point and a few sea mullet and flounder were landed along the beach north of the Cape Tuesday.

Slow fishing was reported in the surf from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet. Blue water fishermen off Oregon Inlet landed a few dolphin, king mackerel and scattered tuna.

Charters off Hatteras reported good catches of dolphin and fairly good catches of wahoo and tuna. King mackerel action which was excellent recently slowed appreciably.

The water temperature at the Corps of Army Engineers Pier in Duck was 64 degrees Tuesday and 66 degrees at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
