DESTROYER WILL CARRY ROOSEVELT NAME FOR FRANKLIN D., ELEANOR

A destroyer will be named the USS Roosevelt in memory of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor, Navy Secretary John Dalton announced Tuesday.

It will be the 30th ship of the Arleigh Burke class, joining the fleet in the year 2000. The 29th ship is to be named for Winston Churchill.

Roosevelt served as assistant secretary of the Navy in World War I. Churchill was First Lord of the Admiralty before he became prime minister of Great Britain. by CNB
