BODY IDENTIFIED

Authorities have identified the man whose body was found Monday in a ditch in the Huntersville section.

The victim, Steve Lavon Edwards, 19, of the 1100 block of South St. in Portsmouth, was reported missing after he left to go to a restaurant on Oct. 12 and did not return, said Amber Whittaker, a Portsmouth police spokeswoman.

A child found Edwards' body about 6 p.m. Monday at Town Point Road and Hunter's Drive. The body was fully clothed and appeared to have been there for several days. An autopsy on Tuesday was unable to determine a cause of death. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk police at 925-6350, Suffolk Crime Line at 539-1222 or Portsmouth Crime Line at 488-7777. by CNB
