HIGHEST OVERALL VELOCITY

Have you recently been on the NASCAR track between Norfolk and Virginia Beach? I am convinced that a large number of the motoring public has gone mad. Travel at the posted 55 mph on the regular road, even in the right lane, and receive glares, flashing lights and horns. Travel in the center lane and have cars whiz by you on both sides.

Then if you really want a thrill, drive on the HOV.

I am convinced that HOV stands for Highest Overall Velocity. Drive at the legal 55 mph on the HOV and be passed at speeds that must be approaching 80 mph.

Where are the police? Oh, yes, I have seen a couple of officers assisting motorists who are having vehicle problems. But why are they are not writing more tickets for speeding and driving in a dangerous fashion?

Is it a hopeless task to persuade people to have respect for our laws?
