LUCY R. NEWSOM

Lucy Russell Newsom, 87, died Oct. 23, 1996.

A native of Norfolk, Mrs. Newsom was a packer at the U.S. Navy Supply Center and was retired. She was the widow of William A. Newsom and was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Newsom was one of the first women to work at the U.S. Navy Supply Center in 1942 at the start of World War II as the men left to serve overseas.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn N. Ferris and her husband, William D. Ferris, of Yorktown; a son, William A. Newsom Jr. of Norfolk; two brothers, Ellroy Russell of Chesapeake and Thomas M. Russell of San Diego, Calif.

A funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Fr. Forrest Bergeron. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
