Isabella Burton ``Belle'' White, 60, of the 400 block of W. Baylor Court, died Oct. 19, 1996, in her home surrounded by family, of colon cancer.
Born in Coinjock, N.C., she retired five years ago as a teacher of the Portsmouth School System with 31 years of service. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, participating as an Elder, academic tutor, coordinator of the SHARE program, and spearhead of the building expansion project. She was a member of the National Education Association. Mrs. White was known for ``Cakes by Belle'' and personalized children's books. Also as a former member of Greater Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, she continued to actively support the church.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph L. White; a daughter, Diana M. White-Pettis of Largo, Md.; a son, Joseph L. White Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a sister, Bettie E. Obey of Norfolk; and grandchildren, Robert, Tiffany and Stephanie of Maryland.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greater Metropolitan AMEZ Church, Norfolk, by Dr. Octavius Gaba, the Rev. Thomas Tucker and the Rev. Nathaniel Harps. The remains will rest at church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
