LATHERN E. BARFIELD

Lathern E. Barfield, 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1996, at Waverly Health Care Center.

Born in Dendron, Mr. Barfield was the son of the late William E. and Fannie Price Barfield. He served in the CCC Camp during World War II and was a farmer for a number of years. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 1979 after 26 years of service. He was a member of Dendron United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his sister, Essie W. Young , Chesapeake; two sisters-in-law; seven nieces; two nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dendron United Methodist Church, Isle of Wight Rescue Squad or the Dendron Volunteer Fire Department.
