CHILD ABUSE CENTER HONORED FOR ADVOCACY

The Child Abuse Center of Hampton Roads has received a national award for its advocacy for children.

The center was one of six individuals and organizations that received a 1996 Outstanding Legal Advocacy Award from the National Association of Counsel for Children.

The association presents the award to individuals and organizations that exhibit excellence in the field of children's law, advocacy and protection.

The other recipients were Linda Mallory Beery, a Richmond lawyer; Donald N. Duquette, an Ann Arbor, Mich., lawyer; Seth Grob, a Denver lawyer; Tina M. Talarchyk, a West Palm Beach, Fla., lawyer; and the University of Chicago Loyola CIVITAS ChildLaw Center in Chicago.

The Child Abuse Center of Hampton Roads, which is based in Norfolk but serves all of Hampton Roads, provides medical and psychological evaluations for children suspected of being abused.

The center also provides therapy and other guidance for those children and their families. by CNB
