SPECKLED-TROUT AND OTHER ACTION SPOTTY ON PIERS

Fishing resumed on pier along the northern beaches Friday as the high seas present over the past several days subsided.

On Kitty Hawk Pier a few small speckle trout and sea mullets were taken during the morning and small blues, spot and perch and flounder over the afternoon.

Avalon Pier reported small bluefish spot, speckle trout and skates landed off and on during the day.

Anglers on Nags Head pier caught good numbers of small speckle trout during the morning along with a few flounder and sand perch. Afternoon fishing was slow.

Action on Jennette's Pier was slow during the most of the day with only a few small speckle trout and a sand shark landed.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier landed small speckle spot and sand perch.

South of Oregon Inlet reported a few spot, bluefish and sea mullet taken during the morning. Fishing was slow through the afternoon.

Several medium size drum were decked on Avon Pier Thursday night. Drum weighing 32 and 27 lbs., a few sea mullets and skates were taken Friday.

On Frisco Pier a few sea mullet bluefish, black drum, keeper flounder and sharks were landed sporadically throughout the day.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches was slow Friday due to lingering swells and dirty water. Around Oregon Inlet a few bottomfish and small blues were landed.

A few drum were beached surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Several medium drum, puppy drum, a few small black drum and keeper flounder were landed along the beach south of the point Friday.

Surf fishing was slow from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

Yellowfin tuna fishing was good. Southeast of Oregon Inlet near the point and a little south of the ``Point.'' Most of the fish taken weighed 40 to 50 lbs. A few dolphin and some nice king mackerel were also landed.

Charters off Hatteras caught a few king mackerel, dolphin, tuna and wahoo.

The water temperature at the Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 64.5 Friday and 68 at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
