CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS - CHESAPEAKE

The Chesapeake City Council met and took the following actions, based on a report from the Office of the City Clerk. Proposal

Refunds of assessed taxes to various individuals and businesses. Approved, 9-0.

Acceptance of resignation from Robert Totty from the Airport Authority. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Parks and Recreation Department and Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council for authority to submit a litter prevention and recycling grant application to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Social Services for appropriation of $6,000 of senior citizens transportation grant funds allocated by the Southeastern Virginia Areawide ModelProgram. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Juvenile Detention for appropriation of $23,932.88 of funds allocated by the federal Department of Agriculture. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Health Department of appropriation of $25,000 of personal care grant funds allocated by the Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program Inc. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Parks and Recreation Department of appropriation of $4,022 of Seniors 'n Motion grant funds allocated by the Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program Inc. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Court Services Unit, First Judicial District Court for appropriation of $5,000 of one-time special funds grant funds allocated by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Social Services for appropriation of $73,794 of Head Start Child Care and Development block grant entitlement funds allocated by the state Department of Social Services. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Social Services for appropriation of $275,146 of fee system/block grant child day care program entitlement funds allocated by the state Departmentof Social Services. Approved, 9-0.

Appeal of the Planning Commission's decision to deny a waiver of curb-and- gutter requirements for the development of a residential subdivision at corner of Bells Mill Road and Progessive Drive. Motion to approve the waiver. Approved 8-1 with Ward voting no.

A resolution authorizing the interim city manager and city clerk to enter into a police mutual aid agreement with the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach, and the counties of Gloucester and James City. Approved, 9-0.

Request to include Initiative I on impact fees for new development in the 1997 legislative program Approved 5-4; Butt, Duda, Parker and Thornton voting no.

Request to include Initiative 15 on tax deferral for unimproved residentiallyzoned property in the 1997 legislative program. Deferred, 9-0.

Request to include Initiative 17 on charter amendment in the 1997 legislative program. Approved, 9-0.

Participation in public/private partnership initiative. Continued indefinitely, 9-0.

Request by Department of Public Utilities for appropriation of $5,000,000 for Lake Gaston Resources. Approved, 8-0; Ward out of chamber.

Request by Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority for appropriation of $290,000 of community development block grant revolving loan funds. Approved, 8-0; Ward out of chamber.

Clarification of stipulation of Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell on Battlefield Boulevard. Approved, 8-0; Ward out of chamber.
