Clara Odelle Spain, 82, died Oct. 25, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Odelle was a native of Newsoms, Va. She was a graduate of Newsoms High School and a member of the Newsoms United Methodist Church.
At the beginning of World War II, Miss Spain moved to Portsmouth and worked for the Emergency Ration Board. After the war, she relocated to Norfolk and was employed with the Rothke Motor Co. as a bookkeeper. Later, she was with the Citizens Home Insurance Co. until she retired. She was a resident of the Ghent area of Norfolk for over 40 years.
Miss Spain was the daughter of the late George Littleton and Fannie Bunn Spain. She is survived by four aunts, Mrs. Ethel Saunders, Mrs. Gladys Shaw, Mrs. Evelyn Ferrell and Mrs. Bernice Decker; and a host of cousins and many friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Newsoms United Methodist Church by the Rev. Derek Koolman. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church, c/o P.O. Box 297, Newsoms, Va. 23874. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
