POLICE CHECKPOINT YIELDS 53 CHARGES

A Norfolk and state police operation netted 53 charges against motorists Friday night, including three arrests of drunken drivers.

The checkpoint was set up at the westbound on-ramp to Interstate 264 at State Street in the Berkley section.

A state police spokeswoman said the following charges were recorded, in addition to the drunken driving offenses:

16 driving with suspended licenses.

Six driving without a license.

Seven not wearing seat belts.

One habitual offender.

One possession of marijuana.

One possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

One child-restraint seat violation.

17 miscellaneous charges.
