In response to Lisa Persikoff's letter (Oct. 16), I look forward to the day when artificial contraception, as it has been foisted on society by Margaret Sanger's Planned Parenthood, is recognized for the evil it is.
Using barrier and chemical methods has had disastrous effects. Women's health is tampered with. License to indulge in promiscuity and adultery has led to a 500 percent increase in the divorce rate since contraception became widely practiced. Acceptance of contraception has led to legalization of abortion. Just how far will we go not to have babies? Thirty-five million abortions and counting.
There is an alternative. The scientific method of natural family planning is 99 percent effective, has no side effects, is morally acceptable and is marriage-building. The good communication and respect fostered by NFP have resulted in a divorce rate of less than 1 percent for those who rely on it.
Other than the Catholic Church, which teaches it, you don't hear much about NFP, at least not from Planned Parenthood. It is free; it depends on self-knowledge and self-control; and Planned Parenthood would lose millions of taxpayers' dollars if the public was enlightened and thus liberated from PP's costly contraptions.
