VELMA MANLEY

Velma Manley of the 800 block of Scott St. died Oct. 27, 1996, in a local hospital.

The widow of Roosevelt Manley, she was a member of Union United Church of Christ and a native of Smithfield. She was a retired dietitian with 18 years service with Norfolk City Public Schools and worked for Virginia Electric Transit as a custodian for seven years.

Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Lassiter of Norfolk and Jean Jefferson of Chesapeake; three sons, Raynard Manley of Virginia Beach, Rene Manley of Norfolk and Donald Manley of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Donald Wilson, Nikia Lassiter, Toussaint Manley, Nicholas Lassiter, Darius Manley, Torian Manley and Star Manley; cousins, Garfield and Victoria Simms, Rochelle Simms, Elaine Whitehead and Denise Hilton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Union United Church of Christ by the Rev. Joseph M. Copeland. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
