CAMDEN GIRLS FACE FAMILIAR VOLLEYBALL RIVALS TONIGHT

The Camden County High School volleyball team has once again reached the final four of the 1A state tournament and will face a familiar opponent tonight.

The Lady Bruins, undefeated at 21-0, will face Swansboro, the team that has knocked Camden out of the playoffs the past two years. The game will be played at Camden at 7 p.m.

The Lady Bruins reached the semifinals with a 15-12, 15-5, 12-15, 15-12 win over Pamlico on Saturday night. Camden is the top seed from the Albemarle Conference. Swansboro, with a 20-5 record, is the second seed from the Coastal Plains Conference.

Camden hopes the third time is the charm.

``We definitely wanted another chance at them,'' said Dianne Overton, Camden head coach. ``I'm looking forward to it. They will be pumped up to play this game. The kids have been there before and played for two years. They're glad to be playing them.''

Camden has been well prepared to face just about anything Swansboro can throw at them. The Lady Bruins have done a good job all year of adjusting during matches. The win over Pamlico was a good example.

``Pamlico had two major players and once we figured that out, that's what we tried to work with,'' Overton said. ``Pamlico also attacked the net and tried to block the serve. We hadn't seen that all year and we had to adjust to that.

``These girls on my team,'' Overton added, ``they know what's happening.''

The winner of tonight's contest will advance to the state championship in Charlotte on Saturday. by CNB
