A fire that erupted in a first-floor Villa Heights apartment early Monday morning was caused by a lighted candle, fire spokesman Jack Goldhorn said.
Goldhorn said the fire in a bedroom in the 2800 block of Waverly Way was reported at 4:50 a.m. The fire was contained to the one room and was brought under control in about 20 minutes. No one was in the apartment.
The fire caused about $5,000 in damage. There was minor smoke damage to other units in the building, Goldhorn said. Investigators ruled the fire an accident. The candle was being used because the power was out, Goldhorn said.
