Horace E. Carter Sr., 58, of the 300 block of Carawan Lane, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996.
Mr. Carter was born in Onslow County, N.C., and was the son of Viola Corbett Carter of McCleansville, N.C., and the late Elbert Carter. Mr. Carter was employed by C.L. Carter Heating and Air Conditioning. He was a member and deacon of Great Bridge Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Carter served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Carter; three daughters, Pamela Johnson, Tiffany Hackney and Candace Carter; his son, Horace E. Carter Jr., all of Chesapeake; three sisters, Reba Archambo of Hampton, Janice Brown and Cathy Carter, both of McCleansville; four brothers, Calvin Carter of Suffolk, Vernon Carter of Walnut Island, N.C., Melvin Carter of Pikeville, N.C., and Morris Carter of Greensboro, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Great Bridge Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Hal Jones. Interment will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Viewing will begin today and friends may join the family in Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Great Bridge Freewill Baptist Church, 700 Mount Pleasant Road, Chesapeake, Va. 23322.
