James C. ``J.C.'' Jones, 77, of the 100 block of Carol Lane died Oct. 26, 1996, in his home.
Mr. Jones was an aircraft mechanic at Naval Air Station Norfolk before retiring with 37 years service. He was a native of Bertie County, N.C., and a former member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and The Mosa Club of Portsmouth. He also retired from the Portsmouth City Public School System after 17 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth M. Jones of Portsmouth; sons, Herbert L. Jones of New York, N.Y, Russell M. Jones of Washington, D.C., and Curtis Jones of Portsmouth; brothers, Otis R. Jones of Portsmouth, Henry E. Jones of Philadelphia and Edward F. Jones of Bertie County, N.C.; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild; an uncle and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at noon Thursday in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing in the funeral home will begin at 10 a.m. today.
