A 41-year-old man indicted in August after a boating accident that killed a Virginia Beach couple was arrested in Florida Monday, the Chesapeake Commonwealth's Attorney's office said.
Patrick Cassidy of the 1900 block of Buttonwood St. in Chesapeake was arrested at 3:48 a.m. in New Port Richey, Fla., where he had been employed by a tree surgeon. Authorities will have Cassidy extradited to Chesapeake to face two charges of manslaughter.
The boating accident occurred in April. Cassidy was riding in a boat with the couple when the boat smashed into a tugboat.
Killed were 37-year-old Bertha Virginia Tant and her husband, Barry W. Tant Sr., 36. Bertha Tant died at the scene; her husband died later at a hospital.
