Kay Cole James, dean of the school of government at Regent University, was appointed by U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Monday to serve on a newly created federal commission that will study the effects of gambling.
James could not be reached for comment Monday. She has been active in the Christian Coalition, a political action committee founded by religious broadcaster Pat Robertson that is opposed to gambling.
Before her job at Regent, she spent two years as Secretary of Health and Human Resources under Gov. George F. Allen.
