Leaf motif
Which came first, the leaf or the leather?
The love of nature led artist C.L. Whitiong to develop metal leather stamps that meticulously replicate leaves and wildflowers. Vegetable dye stains the leather in vibrant shades beyond nature's hues.
On money clips, $14, credit-card cases, $24, and travelers bags, $223, the motif of fall is beautifully preserved.
Available at Simply Selma's, Norfolk.
Celebrate the good life
``Dolce Vita'' will be the theme at this year's fashion gala and luncheon fund-raiser of the Virginia Symphony League, which is celebrating 50 years of support of the Virginia Symphony.
Featuring fashions from some of the finest stores in Hampton Roads, the event is certain to be one of the season's most memorable events and as always, a sell out.
The luncheon is at noon Nov. 12, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott, followed by the fashion show.
Tickets for the luncheon and show are $30 each and can be reserved by calling 464-2997 or 460-3069.
Purple phaze
The royal hue of purple reigns as the lip color of the moment.
In the ``cool tone'' family, it has a deep and elegant presence that will offer a welcome change in the makeup palette.
Says Dominique Szabo, senior vice president of Estee Lauder: ``It's been a long time since purple was in vogue. It represents an evolution from the traditional browns and wines in fall makeup.''
My personal color favorites include Racy by Estee Lauder, Colourant by Trucco, Black Raspberry by Mary Kay and Violet Light by Revlon. ILLUSTRATION: Color photo by Martin Smith-Rodden/The Virginian-Pilot
