William Eugene Yancey, 58, of the 1300 block of Tallwood St., died Oct. 28, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mr. Yancey was a logistics manager for COMNAVAIRLANT and retired after 27 years in the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was born in Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church and president of the Wards Corner Optimists Club. He was also a member of Fleet Reserve (NU)66.
Survivors include his wife, Jean H. Yancey of Norfolk; two stepdaughters, Debra Parker and Gwendolyn Wagner, both of Boca Raton, Fla.; two stepsons, Bennett Bailey of Boca Raton and Stanley Bailey of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; an adopted son, William W. Yancey of California; his mother, Doretha H. Kelly of Clinton, Mo.; sisters, Sharon Hay of Granby, Mo., Pam Van Beek of Plover, Wisc., Vicky May of Independence, Mo., Heather Yancey of Missouri; a half-sister, Elizabeth Smith of Kansas City; brothers, Robert L. Yancey of Independence, Donald Yancey of Odessa, Texas, Ronald Yancey of Independence and Dennis Yancey of Gainsville, Fla.; half-brothers, Chester Smith of Kansas City and Kerrie Kelly of Kansas City; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was predeceased by a brother, Christopher Ramsey.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Ocean View Baptist Church by Dr. David N. Clay. Burial will be in Creech's Church Cemetery, Selma, N.C. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. Donations may be made to Ocean View Baptist Church Education or Building Fund.
