Walter Lee Byrd, of the 1400 block of Green St., died Oct. 26, 1996, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Born in Emporia, Va., he was the widower of Nonie Byrd. He was a custodian for the City of Portsmouth, retiring after 21 years of service. Mr. Byrd was a past member of Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk.
Survivors include two daughters, Edith M. Wright and Corinne Edwards, both of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, by the Rev. F. R. Williams. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 11 a.m. today.
